Overview The club aims to improve member’s public
speaking skills as well as their debating
abilities. Debates are held according to JCI’s
debating guidelines, which can be downloaded
from this page. During each meeting, which is
held once a month members are divided into
groups and can debate for and against any motion
they choose.
Heated debates have been known to occur.
Training courses by JCI trainers were delivered
twice for the year 2009. JCI Aleppo is also
planning for debating competition with other
local JCI chapters in Syria, and possibly
working towards participating in the JCI world
debating competition which will be held during
the JCI world congress in Tunisia.

JCI World Debating
Championship to take place in Hammamet, Tunisia.
One of the highlights of the 2009 JCI World
Congress in Hammamet, Tunisia will be the JCI
World Debating Championship sponsored by 1963
JCI President Eric H. Stevenson.
The World Debating Championship takes place in
November, 2009 in three languages, English,
French and Spanish. National Organizations are
encouraged to register teams for this program as
well as for the championships at the area
conferences.
A team should have four members: three debaters
and one adjudicator. Due to time constraints
there will be a limit in the number of teams
admitted.
Debate for
university students' project:
What is the debate competition?
There will be an orientation session after which
interested participants may register to join the
project.
There will be a training session on how to
debate and accordingly the participants will
debate for a nd against issues that matter for
the youth till they reach the finals where the
winning team is going to be announced and the
participants will get their certificates and
awards. Only the participants who attend all the
sessions are eligible to go to the finals.
For the coming phases of the project, we are
planning to run competitions with other
universities from Aleppo and other local cities.
Competitors may also proceed to go to the JCI
World Debate.
Why the debate
competition?
Every day student faces a situation where they
stand in front of the audience to deliver a
presentation or argue for or against an idea.
Thus, we decided to help students improve their
public speaking and debating skills.
To whom?
The program is directed to the students
following the M.A programs in the faculties of
Economics, Humanities and Literature, and The
Higher Institute of Languages in the University
of Aleppo.
In the coming phases we will run the project for
the students in the graduation year in different
departments of the universities of Syria.
